English.chinabuses.com: since the outbreak of the global financial crisis, the media across China has been making extensive reports on new energy vehicles. On Jun. 1, the successful trial operation of Yixing all-electric buses built by Yixing Electric Vehicle Co., Ltd. in Linyi, Shandong, immediately aroused wide public attention.
A look at the new bus’s front
It is reported that the new green bus will go into line production officially in July. However, an impatient customer, a bus operator from Sanya in Hainan already placed an order of 400 units of the environmentally friendly buses.
A look at the new bus’s rear
Measuring 12 meters long, Yixing all-electric bus boasts a maximum speed of no less than 100 km/h. Moreover, it is capable of traveling 360 kilometers nonstop after a three-hour recharge. Thus, the bus has outperformed its predecessors which are often of low battery capacity and short continuous mileage. Besides, it helps bus operators cut operating costs dramatically compared with the traditionally fuel-powered buses.
Yixing all-electric bus is mounted with 24 silicon batteries at its rear. As the core parts of the bus, the batteries account for nearly half of the production cost of the bus. Compared with lithium-ion batteries or Nickel-Metal hydride batteries, silicon batteries are better in performance-price ratio and have a longer life expectancy of over three years. The bus, with an expected mileage of 150,000 km, is way better than the standards set by the government for the type of buses.
Priced between RMB 1 million to RMB 1.5 million (about USD 146,248 to USD 219,371), the bus, with low operating costs and zero-emission feature, will soon gain popularity among the urban bus operators. Linyi city is now expecting to have the new bus on its road by the end of this year.
