German parts supplier Robert Bosch AG is adding new products and boosting production capacity in China.
"In China we will invest 850 million euros (9.19 billion yuan) from 2008 to 2010," says Peter Pang, president of Bosch (China) Investment Co., in a company statement.
In June, Bosch opened an 83,000-square-meter parts plant in Dalian, Liaoning province, which will produce parts for China and for exports. The plant will make aluminum and cast-iron calipers, parking brakes, rotors and master cylinders.
"Dalian will become one of the largest manufacturing bases of Bosch Chassis Systems in the world," the company said.
Separately, Bosch is expanding its auto electronics portfolio. At Bosch Automotive Products (Suzhou) Co., three new production lines have been added this year to make parking-aid sensors, airbag control units and micro-hybrid technology.
Also this year, Bosch acquired Shenzen Wei Ning Da Industrial Co. (Weicon) for an undisclosed sum. The company develops, manufactures and sells diagnostic equipment.
In May, Bosch began construction of its new China headquarters in Shanghai. The 28,631 square meter site is in Shanghai Hongqiao Linkong Economic Zone. The nine-floor building will have 80,000 square meters of floor space and will be ready in 2010.
In 2007, Bosch generated sales of 18.3 billion yuan ($2.68 billion) in China.
