Volvo Buses has received an order for 222 city buses to Hungary. Deliveries will be made at the end of 2008 and in the first half of 2009.
The buses were ordered by the Volan Group and a Hungarian consortium. The order comprises 67 of Volvo’s complete Volvo 7700 city buses, the 18-meter articulated version. These buses will be produced in Volvo’s plant in Poland. In addition, the order includes 55 Volvo B12B/BLE chassis and 100 Volvo B9L chassis. The chassis will be manufactured in Volvos’ plant in Bor?s, Sweden and the bodies will be provided by the Hungarian company Alfa Busz.
"The receipt of this order is largely attributable to the unique and continuous customer efforts in Hungary," says P-A Klint, responsible for Eastern Europe within Volvo Buses’ Europe region. "Another key explanation is our structure in Hungary, in which the body builder Alfa Busz also functions as our dealer."
Currently, there is a renewal of the city bus fleets in Hungary, but tough requirements are being placed on the producers who want to deliver.
"Hungary has a long tradition in bus building and there is unique bus know-how among the customers," says Tibor Mogyorossy, President of Alfa Busz. "The successes for Volvo Buses and Alfa Busz are due largely to the high quality of our vehicles and are based on a strong safety concept."
