Honeywell International Inc, a global diversified technology and manufacturing leader, has inked a cooperation memorandum with Chongqing Changan Automobile Co. Ltd<000625><200625>, one of China's leading carmakers, to develop the country's first mini-turbo for low-emission vehicle engines.
The highly efficient mini-turbo, which will be jointly developed by Honeywell's R&D center in China and the Chinese auto maker, is able to save 10% to 15% in fuel consumption for Changan Auto's compact cars, sources reported, citing Shane Tedjarati, Honeywell Global vice-president & China and India CEO, as saying.
Tedjarati noted the mini-turbo will also help vehicle manufacturers to lower production costs as the green technology could cut the engine size by 30% to 50%.
The mini-turbo will be equipped with 0.8-liter to 1.3-liter car engines, said Zhu Huarong, vice-president of Changan Auto, adding that, so far, Changan Auto is the only Chinese car producer to adopt this new technology on low-emission vehicles on a gas platform.
Honeywell has also inked agreements on energy saving projects with Chongqing Gas (Group) Co. Ltd and Chongqing Beer Group Co.
