A few days ago, General Motor Corporation (GM Corporation) announced that its 33 manufacturing plants scattered in the globe had recently achieved "complete recycling production", which led the number of the plants that are affiliated to GM Corporation which meet such a standard reach up to 43. And Shanghai GM as one of the major joint venture companies in China has totally achieved "complete recycling production" in its Jinqiao Base. Additionally, GM Corporation promised that by the end of 2010, more than half of its main manufacturing plants would achieve "complete recycling production".

As known to all, auto manufacture industry needs a large quantity of water, power and energy sources, and during the manufacture process, much waste water and gas will be produced and will impact the environment if being managed improperly. Therefore, during the auto manufacture process, auto manufacturers shall take effective measures in terms of energy conservation and environmental protection, keep researching & developing and launching more environmental-friendly technologies and products, and consistently search the resolutions to environmental protection challenges.

Just because green manufacture represents a new orientation of the development of auto industry in the future, in recent years, many auto companies have taken building up "green plants" as their aims; holding the conception of environmental protection through the whole auto manufacture process and hoping realize environmental protection and energy conservation via scientific and technological innovation.

In GM Corporation's plants achieving "complete recycling production", even the smallest waste can be used effectively, such as wasted aluminum can be processed into the components of engines and gear-boxes in GM Corporation's foundry plants; wasted iron, aluminum alloy and paper can be recycled into many kinds of products; wasted oil can be reused after being processed again; wasted pressboards can be repress into raw material for new pressboards. Such technologies and technics that "change waste into valuable" have been applied sufficiently in GM Corporation's plants achieving "complete recycling production".

As introduced, the waste raw materials having been recycled and used by those GM Corporation's plants achieving "complete recycling production" in 2008 include 630,000 tons cracked metal, 8,000 tons wood, 7,500 tons pressboards and 1,200 tons plastics. As more and more plants have achieved "complete recycling production", the total amount of the waste raw materials recycled and used by GM Corporation will be increased greatly.

Not only to GM Corporation, nowadays, energy conservation and emission reduction has become a common theme on the production for auto manufacture companies. And the common problem in the industry is how to do for the recycling economy, which is not related to the manufacture of complete autos, but also has a close relation to the manufacture of components and such taches as usage, maintenance and recycling. Thus, an all-round realization of green is needed, and a harmonious development with environment shall be achieved.

Take recycling as an example, European authorities have definitely stipulated that all buried parts of an auto shall not exceed 5 percent; additionally, energy conservation and environmental protection is also a main orientation in China. Just as an industrial expert has said, auto manufacturers shall take recycle and degradability into consideration on the material selection for autos from now on.

Therefore, building up a complete green industrial chain from the upper stream to the lower stream has become a further attempt for many companies.

As for Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co., Ltd, the management on the component suppliers is an important tache for its environmental management. In terms of the selection of raw materials, Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co., Ltd requests suppliers to practise ISO14000 environmental management system so as to improve its environmental performance. In order to make suppliers understand the significance of "green purchase" further, Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co., Ltd also organized special trainings for suppliers.

With the reinforced management on suppliers, consistently transferring and advocating the ideal of environmental protection to customers and partners is also an important tache in developing green industrial chain. Just based on such an ideal, Guangzhou Honda's green franchises take shape gradually, step into standardization and take into implementation step by step.

In November, 2006, Guangzhou Honda's green franchises are initiated. Presently, there have been over 30 4S chain stores of Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co., Ltd being certificated as green franchises. The company planned to spend two or three years on constructing green franchises step by step countrywide and promote them into secondary cities increasingly.

In fact, as far as every walk of life is concerned, green manufacture is an effective approach to realizing sustainable development. As early as 2006, "key technologies and equipment in green manufacture" has been listed in the important projects of national science-supported plans of the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan". "If an environmental-friendly plant is planned to produce green products, adopting new technologies and taking measures on each and every link of the industrial chain are needed. Although it will lead to increased cost, it will be a positive recycling for the development of China's auto industry." An insider commented like this.
