New Standard on Noise inside Buses Capped at 86 dB

On Feb. 23, 2009, it is learnt from Ministry of Transport that Limit and Measurement Methods of Noise inside Bus will take effect. According to the new measure, the noise inside a bus cannot surpass 86 dB.
The noise inside city buses and other coaches, including long-distance coaches and tourist coaches is capped respectively under the new measure, according to which, the noise of the driver’s and passengers’ area should be kept under 86 dB for the coaches with front-mounted engines and 78 dB in the driver’s area and 84 dB in the passengers’ for the coaches with mid/rear-mounted engines.
Generally, noises below 60 dB are harm-free, but above 110 dB will have some negative impacts on people. It is estimated that people’s whispering is about 30 dB and loud speaking about somewhere between 60 dB and 70 dB. When passing 120 dB, People will feel hurting in their ears.
