Recently, a fleet of 10 units of Ankai electric buses, with a total value of RMB 30 million (about 4.39 million USD) made their appearance in Shanghai. While playing a role in emission reduction and environmental improvement, the fleet is expected to usher in the wide application of electric buses in urban China.
According to some local residents who rode the bus, the new model is much less noisy than those with diesel engines and moves more steadily.
Sources indicate that these electric buses, with model number HFF6110G03EV and HFF6120G03EV, etc. can get recharged in three to five hours at night. In their daytime service with the air-conditioner on, they are able to travel 160 kilometers at least. If the air-conditioner is off, they can travel as far as 250 to 300 kilometers. A driver on Bus Line 825 in Shanghai revealed that the electric bus used on the line travels 154 kilometers on average and consumes about 170 kilowatts electricity each day. Therefore, its power cost is only 85 RMB (about 12.5 USD), only one third of that of common bus with diesel engine.
According to sources, the fleet of electric buses are the third generation of its kind provided by Ankai. Compared with the former two generations, the new one boasts higher power with the maximum speed of 130Km/h and provides more travel comforts, including air-conditioning devices and low floor access. Moreover, alternately powered by lithium iron phosphate batteries and ultra-capacitors, the bus only needs four hours to get recharged instead of eight for its former generations.
