In Mar. 2009, the demand for buses & coaches went up compared with that of the previous month, but was still lower than that of the same period last year. From Jan. to Mar. 2009, the sales volume of buses & coaches totaled 60,500 units, down 21.79% y/y, indicating the declining trend was slowing down. The output/sales ratio of the first quarter stood at 106.62%. The sales volume of large-, medium- and small-sized coaches stood at 7,300, 10,400 and 42,800 units respectively, down by 40.08%, 35.98% and 12.54% y/y respectively. Their output/sales ratio registered at 103.12%, 100.66% and 108.81% respectively. Against the gloomy background, a total number of 1,796 units of alternative fuel powered buses & coaches (new energy ones) were sold, up by a staggering 66.14%.
In March alone, the market sold 24,900 buses & coaches, up by 50.11% m/m and down by 14.09% y/y. The output/sales ratio stood at 101.52%. Among the different types of coaches, the large-sized ones sold 2,573 units, up by 46.61% m/m and down by 34.93% y/y. Its output/sales ratio stood at 95.76%. The medium-sized coaches, with an output/sales ratio at 99.93%, sold 4,045 units, up by 110% m/m and down by 34.93% y/y. The small-sized coaches registered a sales volume of 18,236 units, up by 42.02% m/m and down by 5.22% y/y. Its output/sales ratio stood at 102.76%. Compared with statistics in Feb., the medium-sized coaches saw the largest gains while the large- and small-sized ones also witnessed relatively fast growth.
In terms of sales volume in Mar. 2009, the top ten domestic bus & coach builders include Brilliance Jinbei (6,735 units), Jiangling (3,263 units), Nanjing Iveco (2,161 units), Beiqi Foton (2,065 units), Zhengzhou Yutong (1,617 units), Xiamen Golden Dragon (1,279 units), Suzhou Higer (758 units), Xiamen Kinglong (653 units), Shaolin (556 units) and Sichuan FAW Toyota (414 units). Compared with the previous month, only Xiamen Kinglong saw a decline in its sales volume and the other enterprises all recorded remarkable growth. Among them, Zhengzhou Yutong, Xiamen Golden Dragon and Suzhou Higer witnessed the most staggering expansion. The sales volume of the top ten enterprises reached 19,500 units, accounting for 78% of the total in the industry.
