On May 2, 2009, Matthias Wissmann, president of the General German Automobile Association (also known as ADAC) pointed out in Berlin that the importance of Chinese auto market has now surpassed USA to German automakers.
In an interview with Deutschlandfunk Radio, Mr. Wissmann said that China now is the most important market to German automakers after the European market. Currently, every 1,000 Chinese only owns 17 vehicles. Given its fast economic growth, it is expected to become the revitalizing force for the world’s slumping auto market.
The just closed Shanghai International Auto Show has already shown the dynamics of China’s auto market. Mr. Wissmann stressed that German automakers and parts & accessories suppliers should introduce vehicles with low- or zero-emissions to China while maintaining a stable market share.
