On Apr. 30, 2009, thirty brand new fuel-electric hybrid city buses built by Hunan-based Zhuzhou CSR Times Electric Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as CSR Times) officially hit the roads in Changsha, Zhuzhou and Xiangtan in Hunan Province. ZHOU Qiang, Governor of Hunan Province, accompanied by other provincial officials also took a ride with the new energy buses in Changsha.
By the end of this year, a total number of 500 hybrid city buses will be put into service in the three cities to demonstrate the development of China’s energy-efficient and new energy vehicle industry.
Attaching significant importance to the development of electric vehicles, Hunan provincial government has allocated special funds and deployed some experts in this field. After ten years’ arduous work, the province is now taking the lead in R&D of the key energy-saving and new energy vehicle technologies. Moreover, it has set up a sound key parts & accessories supplying system and the first electric vehicle production base with the largest scale in China. Currently, the province is capable of building 3,000 units of new energy buses and 10,000 driveline systems each year.
According to an official with CSR Times based in Hunan Province, the company has already acquired the patent for the driveline system of fuel-electric hybrid bus, which improves fuel economy by over 20% and cut emissions by 60%. Each bus is expected to save fuel by 240,000 liters and reduce carbon emissions by 900 tons in eight years.
