On May 19, 2009, a grand ceremony was held in Yutong Industrial Park to mark the handing of 170 units of Yutong buses to Zhengzhou BRT. It is expected that the local citizens will enjoy fast public transport in the near future.
It is learnt that the new fleet of Yutong bus is comprised of 65 units of ZK6180HGC 18-meter articulated buses and 105 units of ZK6128HGK 12-meter low-floor buses. To ease the traffic congestion and provide passengers with better public transport service, the two bus models are tailor-made according to the real road conditions and practical needs of local passengers.
Located in Central China, Zhengzhou Yutong Bus is now China’s leading bus builder boasting state-of-art bus making technologies. In 2008, it sold 27,556 units of buses & coaches and realized a turnover of over RMB 14 billion (about USD 2.05146 billion). To strive for becoming a competitive player in the global bus market, Zhengzhou Yutong has introduced complete bus electrophoresis equipment and set up a state-level technological center, an experiment center, and a post-doctoral workshop.
To date, Yutong buses have been chosen to form bus fleet in many cities’ BRT systems. In 2007, 200 units of ZK6180HGC were exported to Cuba. In 2008, 500 units of 12-meter low-floor ZK6128HGE buses arrived in Hangzhou city to serve the local residents. As the leader in China’s bus market, Yutong sold 5,500 units of buses in 2008, 1,700 units more than that of the second ranking player in China.
Note: Bus rapid transit (BRT) is a broad term given to a variety of transportation systems that, through improvements to infrastructure, vehicles and scheduling, attempt to use buses to provide a service that is of a higher quality than an ordinary bus line. Each BRT system uses different improvements, although many improvements are shared by many BRT systems. The goal of such systems is to at least approach the service quality of rail transit while still enjoying the cost savings of bus transit. The expression BRT is mainly used in North America; in Europe and Australia, it is often called a busway, while elsewhere, one may speak of quality bus or simply bus service while raising the quality.
