English.chinabuses.com: according to the statistics newly released by China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), China’s auto industry has been faring well in the first half of 2009 despite of the worldwide economic slowdown. The total production and sales volumes reached six million units, both of which were up by 15% y/y. However, 96.8% of the overall growth of the auto industry was contributed by the passenger car sector while the commercial vehicle (CV) sector had little positive impact on the robust expansion of the pillar industry in China.

CV production and sales stood basically the same as the same period last year.

In Jun., the monthly production and sales volumes of China’s CVs stood at 254,500 and 269,200 units respectively, down by 10.81% and 7.38% m/m, but up by 11.04% and 8.34% y/y. Compared with the same period last year, the CV market has been on the rise for three consecutive years.

From Jan. to Jun. this year, the production and sales volumes of trucks went down while those of buses and trailers registered some growth. In the meantime, the production and sales volumes of CV (excluding minibuses) totaled 1.5719 million and 1.5650 million units respectively. The production volume rose by 1.64% y/y while the sales volume dropped by 0.52% y/y.

Minibuses delivered best performance in CV market.

In Jun. the minibus continued delivering a spectacular performance by realizing production and sales volumes of 174,600 and 160,200 units respectively. Its production volume went up by 1.45% m/m while its sales volume shrank by 7.22% y/y.

From Jan. to Jun. the total production and sales volumes of minibuses registered at 925,600 and 935,500 units respectively, up by 55.18% and 54.46% y/y respectively, thus becoming the most shining star in the CV market.

The CV export market failed to reverse the sharp declining trend.

According to the statistics from the customs, China’s exports of automobile products went down sharply in the first half of 2009. In Jun. alone, the country’s total export volume of automobile stood at 30,600 units, up by 27.29% m/m, but down by 27.29% y/y. From Jan. to Jun, China’s total export volume of automobiles reached 142,400 units, down by 60.21% y/y.
