English.chinabuses.com: a bus fire happened in Southwest China’s Chengdu in early Jun. has sparked a nationwide investigation on bus safety measures. Many Chinese bus builders have also been closely following the incident and taking more stringent measures while building new buses so as to ensure passengers’ safety.
According to a technician from Ankai, the company has introduced state-of-art bus building technologies from Germany-based Kassbohrer Co. In terms of engine compartment, the company has added flame-retarding and heat-insulating materials. Moreover, it has built a ventilation outlet at the rear of the compartment so as to cool it. As the summer is now very much in the air, the temperature of various parts of the engine compartment will become extremely high if the engine is set in operation for quite a long time. To prevent the spontaneous combustion of the bus caused by overly high temperature, Ankai has built in several sensors inside the compartment. Once the temperature rises to a certain level, the sensors will issue warnings to drivers through indicator lamp.
Although the measures taken above may lower the possibility of spontaneous combustion of buses significantly, Ankai does not rest in ease. Instead, it adopts passive safety systems which are equipped with dry powder fire extinguishers that will be set working automatically once the engine compartment has a little spark of fire. Now the company’s new technology is now setting a new trend for the bus building industry in China.
