Along with the continuously rising fuel prices and the increasing awareness of environmental protection, many bus drivers and operators have become to realize driving skills do matter in terms of fuel efficiency. It is reported a well-skilled bus driver can improve fuel economy as high as 30%. It is under such backdrop that the Ministry of Transport (MOT) initiated the “Energy-Saving Competition” across the transport industry in China.

It is hoped that through holding such competition, all bus drivers and operators can take the initiative to improve their driving skills so that the green public transport can help people realize mobility in a greener manner. During the provincial-level competition in Hunan, all competitors are required to drive Yutong ZK6127H (12-meter long), the best-selling bus of the company in 2008 on the same track, which is 40.3 kilometers long. Apart from the competition, Yutong Bus, one of China’s leading bus builders, will also hold some training session for bus drivers to improve their driving skills.

YAO Mingde, General Secretary of China Road Transport Association (CRTA) highly praised such competition, believing it is of great significance to China’s call for energy-saving and emission reduction given the huge one million bus & coach fleet in China.
