English.chinabuses.com: China revealed a plan recently to boost its automobile industry. The Chinese government aims to produce 500,000 purely electric power automobiles, plug-in hybrids and normal hybrids in the next three years, accounting for 5 percent of the automobile market. Under the government's policy spur, new energy autos produced by Chinese domestic automobile manufacturers are hitting the showrooms.
Regarding the core technology of battery, China's automakers still lag behind auto giants in Japan, Germany and the United States. Experts suggest that the government, enterprises and research institutions should cooperate together to develop China's new energy automobile industry. James E. Smith, president of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) International says the research and innovation are essential for China's automobiles to enter Western markets.
China sold 6.099 million autos in total during the first half, up 17.69 percent year-on-year and surpassed the United States to become the biggest automobile market in the world.
