70-year Development Makes Hengtong the Expert of Gas Buses.

www.chinabuses.org: Chongqing Public Buses.Co., Ltd. was founded in the Zeng Jiayan with the site for repair nearby before the liberation. Then it was removed to Gao Tanyan with the foundation of the repair factory, which was that real beginning of Hengtong's 70-year history.
Hengtong, the "Gas bus Expert” embraced its 70-year celebration.
The first public bus was modified here in 1939 and the Red Kid Mini Buses successfully relieved the increasing public traffic pressure with the employees' great effort when the National Government changed the capital to Chongqing.

In Janurary, 1950, "Liberation" was repaired to be the gift to the Party. Then "Labor”, “July 1st","August 1st" and "May 1st" were fixed and operated. It contributed a lot to recover the bus transport and relieved the tight traffic pressure in Chongqing.
On November 30th, 1950, the buses from Chongqing Public Buses Repair Factory were used to take part in the parade for the anniversary of liberation. All these buses were wooden carriage and engine was fixed in front with poor equipment.
In February,1952, De Xiaocheng,the head of the repair factory and Bao Weigui,the engineer contacted the repair factory of the Logistic Department of Northwest Army and designed the new Soviet Union trolley short-head bus together, then the celebration ceremony of the first 50 buses was held on 1st July. They were helpful for Hengtong to accumulate producing experience with the features of bright interior parts, pre-position chairs fixed and large space for passengers.
In 1953, Hengtong tried to produce trailer buses to fully develop the potential of vehicles. They were effective to relieve the related pressure because the safety was fully considered in the design and the operation condition was good.
In 1958, leaders of the repair factory of Chongqing Public Transport and technicians developed new traffic vehicles such as mini buses, electric vehicles, and three - wheeled motorized vehicles and motorized plat-cars to meet the actual increasing traffic requirements.
In 1959, this repair factory designed and developed the new flexible buses, which owned big capacity, without the specific introduction of the structure by themselves. They offered one new choice for people's trip with the 300 seat buses within one month.
Meanwhile, the repair factory of Public Transport Buses produced new trolley bus called Sea Gull Type. The body adopted wooden material, the structure basically similar with the (Julong Type) massive electric buses. The wooden and iron structure was used on the first bus because of the practical natural condition of Chongqing and lack of steel, and it worked well in 1962.
In 1963,the Public Transport Corporation produced the full metal body buses (named Chongqing) I Type with steel in order to achieve the uniform appearance,also,the type of buses were highly spoken by the special appearance design with the mark of “Chongqing” written by Comrade Deng Xiaoping on the bus head.
Chongqing type buses were continuously enhanced and CQ642 which was improved obtained the leaders’ approval of National Construction Committee when operated in the market.
The repair factory mainly equipped with new buses and became the key bus manufacturing corporations in the Southwest after the Cultural Revolution. It developed the new generation of CQ643 (III Type) according to the successful experience of SC-640 in 1978.
In 1979, Chongqing Buses General Corporation was established and the original repair factory became independent since 1939, based on the Paper (79)200 of Chongqing Capital Construction Department.
On February 25, 1980, the registered trademark of “Chongqing Bus” was formally approved with the triangular shaped pattern and the characters of Chongqing.
The new CQ644 buses, developed in 1983 adopted Dongfeng chassis, tempered glass, semi-mounted type body structure, flexible windows and better ventilation condition, which were popular in the nationwide market.
In 1986, CQ465 luxury tourist buses developed by Hengtong were presented in the National Urban Development Achievement Exhibition and won "Excellent New Product" and "Golden Cup”, the highest prize of Construction Department with the characteristic of design, craftsmanship and new technology. National People's Congress immediately ordered 3 buses and new CQ465 luxury tourist bus was used to serve for NPC for the first time and completed the history of using imported buses in this meeting.
CQ465 series buses have been the representation product of Hengtong for 10 years and played positive role in the promotion of the urban public bus transportation.
In 1988, Chongqing Bus General Corporation began to try and produce the rear engine buses.
The continuous creativity is a key factor in the Chongqing transportation. Through reform, Chongqing Bus General Corporation realized the great-leap-forward development and ranged in the 7 Great Bus companies in China. As for the key economic growth corporation, it was regarded as one of the Great 50 Chongqing industrious companies for three years and won the prize of the Contribution Prize of the state-owned companies.
In 2006, Chongqing Bus General Corporation changed into Chongqing Hengtong Bus Co.,LTD. In 2008, it invested 40 million Yuan to establish the Hengtong Bus Industrial Estate in the development area, which covered 270 thousand square meters and owned one highly mechanized punching production line, one chassis production line, two welding production lines, one hull painting production line, two general assembly production line and one new energy bus production line with the biggest buses production basis in Asia.
In 2009, Hengtong got the ISO/TS16949 quality management certificate, national “May 1 “labor medals, and the production right of bus chassis and the access to new energy bus production. Hengtong will develop its advantages in the bus manufacturing field and promote the advancement of the Chinese bus industry.
