The First Guangtong Hybrid Power Bus Tested in Zhuhai

www.chinabuses.org : On 9 December 2009, the first LPG-electric hybrid power bus of Zhuhai Guangtong Automobile Company Ltd., (for short Guangtong Bus as below) began to be tested in operation in Zhuhai. It consumed 105L LPG for over 200 km in the first day, saving about 20% more than that of the ordinary buses currently used in Guangzhou. It is known that this bus will be delivered to Guangzhou for test operation within 12 weeks if working well.
This hybrid power bus ran along the bus line of the No.15 from 9a.m.to 8:30 p.m.It is 11.5 meters long, produced by Guangtong Bus, released in July and checked by the specialists of the Tianjin Auto Test Center in the mid-November with the loading capacity of 4.8 tons and the control system developed by the Zhuhai Blue Sea Energy Conservation Technology Corporation.
Wang Pengming of Guangtong Bus introduced that the pure electricity power was driven when the bus run at the speed of 0-22km, also the LNG and electricity power worked together at 22-50km.This way can not only save much LNG but also reduce the emission of the pollutant. Moreover, the mechanical energy can be transferred into the power during descenting, decelerating or braking, therefore there is no need to charge the accumulator outside.
Wang Pengming said that Guangtong would further adjust the parameter of the controller of the hybrid power vehicles according to the result of the tests and the level of the energy saving is possibly going to be raised from 20% to 25%.
Currently, there are over 6000 buses with LPG occupying about 80% in all buses. The fuel cost takes 40% in the business cost if each bus ran 220km each day and about 150 thousand Yuan was spent in the fuel each year.
The price of the gas-electric hybrid power bus is about 117 thousand USD, which is 29 thousand USD more than that of the ordinary LPG buses. But the cost can be made up in the operation.
It is calculated that the LPG buses cost 60L NPG/km with air-condition off. About 8 thousand USD can be saved in the fuel cost if a bus ran 300km each day based on the current retail price of the NPG of 0.5USD/L and and the energy saving rate of 25%."The usage life of each gas-electric hybrid power bus is 8 years and it only takes 4 years to get the make up the cost for the LPG hybrid power buses.” said Wang Pengming.
