www.chinabuses.org: According to Michelin's statistics, 46 percent of accidents on expressways worldwide are caused by tire problems. Currently, China has the world's No 2 biggest highway network. Tire blowouts are the source of 70 percent of all accidents in China. Since 2004, Michelin set up the first automobile tire safety testing center and it finds that 91 percent of the vehicles had tire problems.
Safety has been one of Michelin strategic objectives, and it is very important for its global mission of maintaining sustainable mobility. Safety is beyond R&D and marketing. It actually relates to sales channels and network. This is because it not only provides safe tires and safety services, but also provides safe driving concepts for drivers and tells them how to take care of their tires. So, safety is not only about product and service, most importantly, it is Michelin responsibility.
Michelin initiated almost every significant technical development in tyres. It turned the concept of the pneumatic tyre into a practical, production proposition and led the way in applying such concepts first to bicycles, then to motor cars, buses and eventually trucks.
