Break-Through in New Zealand for Alexander Dennis

2011-01-29    Source:www.chinabuses.org

www.chinabuses.org: Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) t has won a £25 million order to supply 120 vehicles to NZ Bus, in Auckland, New Zealand. The win follows a global tendering process that involved almost 30 manufacturers from New Zealand, Australia, China, Brazil and across Europe. ADL Chief Executive Colin Robertson described the news as a “major breakthrough” that will take his company to a new level, having in recent years already secured additional export business in North America and Asia.

The first of the new vehicles – all of which will be single-deck Enviro200 midi buses – will be delivered in time for the Rugby World Cup next summer, while the rest will be progressively introduced over the following 12 months.?

For ADL this deal could be the start of a significant business relationship that has the potential to see the company deliver a further 200 - 300 buses into New Zealand in the next three to four years and to use the location as a spring-board into other territories, notably Australia.

The aim is not simply to supply buses to New Zealand but to become an active player in the country’s manufacturing sector just as in North America and Hong Kong. ADL intends to form local alliances that will create jobs and stimulate the economy, says Colin Robertson, CEO of Alexander Dennis. “On this occasion we will partner with Kiwi Bus Builders of Tauranga, on the west coast of the North Island. They are already working on a new, state-of-the-art facility which will build the buses from kits supplied by our factories in the UK. Given time, we will progressively source more and more parts locally.”

This order for 120 vehicles is the single biggest investment made by NZ Bus since it was acquired by Infratil in 2005. It forms part of a long-range vision to create an unrivalled bus transport system that can be the envy of the world.
