www.chinabuses.org: Volvo signed the first bio-gas-diesel bus order. Higher efficiency could be gained through diesel technology than gas bus. The bio-gas is the renewable resources that could efficiently reduce green house gas emission. Bio-gas is used as the fuel for heat and vehicle in many cities. Many natural gas buses use the bio-gas as the fuel.
But, the gas bus has also the disadvantage: complicated technology and cautious maintenance. Also the gas engine and gasoline engine, based on the four cycle stroke, are not that energy-saving as diesel engine. The principle of the bus environment protection department Edward Jobson says: the diesel engine saves 30% to 40% energy than the gas engine, we should reduce the total consumption of the society and make full use of the diesel engine technology.
At present, Volvo bus has signed the first contract that includes 11 Volvo 8500 city buses with Sweden Vargardabuss which will use methane and diesel technology and will be put into use in July 2011. The principle of the Sweden Volvo company says:” it is been a long time we have used the gas engine to produce the Volvo 7700 for our customers. Now we could provide the low entry bus to satisfy the traffic need of the regional transportation. We could now provide product combination of the energy saving and reliable diesel engine and environment-friendly gas engine to our customer.”
