Foton to Construct a Production Plant in Kenya

www.chinabuses.org: Chinese motor vehicle manufacturing company, Foton Motor Group, Friday rolled out its first pick-up vehicles to the Kenyan market at a colorful ceremony held at the Thika Foton East Africa Production base.


The pick-up, Foton Slip Double Cab  was assembled at the Kenya Vehicle Manufacturers plant by Foton East African which entered the Kenyan market late last year.


The company is currently constructing a local assembling plant along Mombasa road which when complete will produce about 5000 units annually.


Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka who was the chief guest at the event commended  the Foton Motor Group for choosing Kenya as their focal point as it ventures into the East African market.


Mr. Musyoka rooted for more Chinese investment, noting that Kenya has a lot of business opportunities with a large market of close to 130million people and a ready human resource base.


The Vice President challenged Foton to strive and manufacture quality vehicles  suitable for the East African region as a way of proving wrong those who  perceive that Chinese products as sub-standard.


Mr. Musyoka particularly urged the company to ensure an effective and efficient sales and after sales services in order to win customers' confidence in the region.


He noted that Kenya has a ready market for various vehicles since there was a great demand for transportation from both business fraternity and farmers.

"You will surely get a ready market for your products, our farmers need transport for their produce to market destination, our business community also need means to reach their customers," he said.


The President Foton Group, Mr.Wang Jinyu, revealed that the company is one of the largest Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturers with about 14million vehicles currently in the international market.


Mr. Jinyu said that the recent ground-breaking event of the company's assembling plant along Mombasa road marked the strengthening of   technological support and transfer between Kenya and China.


Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, Liu Guangyuan, hailed the existing cordial relationship between Kenya and China and thanked the Kenyan Government for facilitating the establishment of Foton Vehicle manufacturing plant among other Chinese investments.


The envoy congratulated the Kenyan people over the realization of the new Constitution, noting that the new Law will usher in a new era of peace, prosperity and increased investor confidence.


Also present at the function was the Chairman of Beijing Political Consultative Conference, Mr. Wang Anshun, the Managing Director, Foton Motor Group, David Percival and several members of the diplomatic corps among other guests.
