Hybrid Buses for Stagecoach Newcastle

www.chinabuses.org: Stagecoach is launching a fleet of hybrid electric buses in the city of Newcastle. The bus operator successfully won £2.2million in funding from the Green Bus Fund last October, which was the largest successful bid outside London. Stagecoach North East funded the remaining £5 million needed for the investment.
The 26 new Enviro400H Euro 5 buses will come into service on the 39 and 40 routes which cover local areas including Wallsend, Walker, Byker and the City Centre.
It is hoped that these new hybrid busses will reduce carbon emissions on these routes by 30 percent, and will add to the 14 Enviro 400 Euro 5 busses the company purchased in March.
Newcastle City Council is actively supporting the new busses by introducing and environmental zone in central locations and stepping up enforcement measures to ensure that businesses adhere to this.
