Striving for the World Peak of New Technology
It is known that Zhongtong Bus applies the world leading motor system on its developed low floor hybrid power buses and electric buses for the Olympic Games, which just cost 1.1kwh per one hundred kilometers, also the lithium battery offering the power for the constant driving range of 250 kilometers. By far, Zhongtong new energy buses have been operated in dozens of domestic cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Jinan. Moreover, the high-end hybrid power city buses designed for Singapore have been successfully used in the country for two years.
According to Sun Qingmin, general manger of Zhongtong Bus, Zhongtong Bus holds the “making green industry” as the strategic emphasis and strives for the annual production output of 20000 units buses & coaches by 2015, including 7000 units new energy buses.
Independent Innovation Leads to Advancement
Since 2004, Zhongtong Bus has started new energy buses and set up the special team for research & development, focusing on hybrid power buses, exploring electric buses, and following the technical route of fuel cell. In 2007, it invested 56 million Yuan on labs for engineering center of new energy buses and successfully developed hybrid power and electric city buses for Olympic Games, realizing mass production. In recent years, the manufacturer has accumulated the investment of more than 220 million Yuan, including 60 million in 2010.
It achieved many patents (4 invention patents and 13 utility model patents by far) and cooperated with the domestic famous universities such as Tsinghua University for hybrid power buses, Beijing Institute of Technology and Beijing Jiaotong University for electric buses.
Creating International Automobile Brand
In 2009, Zhongtong Bus won the bidding for almost 200 units new energy buses from Jinan city and gained the financial support from the local government.
“It is an important opportunity for China auto builders to catch up with and surpass the world-known builders in the respect of technologies through the development of new energy vehicles. “New energy vehicles just are gradually paid attention by the builders over the world and the related technology is not mature enough. It is possible that we can surpass them if speeding up the innovation currently.”, said Li Haiping, chairman of Zhongtong Bus.
