It marks the formal step into the field of large and medium buses for Foton Motor that the first AUV bus rolled off the production line on 24 November 2004. And then the company continuously increases the market shares in the next four years, however, has started the research and development of new energy vehicles systematically since 2006. In 2007, Foton Motor developed large-sized low floor hybrid power city bus and realized the sales of such models in China in September of that year in batches. In January 2008, 30 units AUV hybrid power buses were delivered to Guangzhou bus operator, with the business operation of more than 2 million kilometers till now.
It is just the good operation conditions of these 30 units buses that bring forward the order of 800 units hybrid power buses from Beijing Public Transport Group and 50 units electric buses at the end of 2008. At the beginning of this year, Taiwan Chengyun Automobile Company has signed the purchasing order with Foton Motor for 75 units AUV hybrid power buses.
In addition, Foton Motor works together with Tsinghua University to undertake the development of AUV fuel cell buses, National Program 863 (project of energy-saving and new energy vehicles). As of 25 September 2008, three units AUV fuel cell buses have been operated for 21411 kilometers in Beijing. By far, 1250 units AUV hybrid power buss, 220 units AUV electric buses, 24 units electric sanitation trucks have been sold. The company plans to produce and sell 11500 units new energy vehicles in 2011, which is about to rise to more than 15% of the total by 2015.
