Foton AUV LNG Buses Help Forming and Popularizing “Guiyang Model”

Now, everything has changed after strict regulations were carried out. 95% of the year, Guiyang inhales good quality air, with acid rain never happens again. The city also was selected as the first “national forest city”, and the only “summer capital”.


In the campaign, Guiyang bus converted from diesel to LNG, made a great contribution.


For many years, Guiyang buses use diesel as fuel, though boast good dynamic, but polluted the air. More than 50 thousand tons of waste air were emitted by buses annually, which posed a great threaten to the health of citizens. LNG buses were introduced under such circumstances. In comparison, LNG buses emit 90% less of hydrocarbon, 80% less of carbon monoxide, 40% less of nitric oxide.


Guizhou is not a economically strong province, they adopted the method of “convertion” to transform buses. But the convertion technology is new in the country, with no model to learn from, with no professionals, cities of Changsha, Urumqi, Zhuhai, Haikou backed out within two years.


Guiyang, who joined the list of piloting cities as a supplement, however, mad it to the end. Hu Xiangcheng, deputy general manager of Guiyang Bus, said:“ our company developed independently with no national standards to refer to. ”eight months later, the team finished the work of convertion and was granted the national patent.


Hu Xiangcheng also said: “fertilizer factory emits 18 million cubic meters of waste gas, is the biggest polluter in the city. By cycling the waste air, more than 10 thousand tons of LNG could be produced, meanwhile, Guiyang bus consumes 3500 tons of LNG a year.” The acts reduced pollution, also brings economic benefits. Li Yongquan introduced : “ we are planning on building a second LNG factory, with enough LNG produced for Guiyang buses.”


The “Diesel to LNG” convertion also brings Guiyang the following honours: 1st LNG gas station in the country; 1st LNG factory using industrial waste gas as raw material; 1st company to finish converting diesel engine to LNG engine; 1st city to use M100 in engine; city with most LNG buses in the country, even in the world.


The methods of Guiyang got highly praised by provincial authority and national authority. The “Guiyang Model” was popularized in the whole province. Professionals in national institutes also reckon that the Guiyang experience are valuable and shall be used in other cities and other provinces. After the goal of building a beautiful China is confirmed, many provinces established  environment protection as a major working aim.


With the environment getting worse, Ministry of Science and Technology calls on all big cities to learn the skills of Guiyang. So far, cities including Beijing, Gansu and Shenzhen have sent delegation to Guiyang. As it’s learned, Beijing plans to purchase 3100 LNG buses this year; Nanjing will upgrade more than 3000 buses in the next three years, 60% of which will be LNG buses.
Guiyang will also purchase 200 new energy buses. As it’s introduced by the staff of BAIC Foton AUV, the gas-consumption of the 12 m rear engine bus has been lowered form 54-58 cubic meters per 100 km to 41-44 cubic meters per 100 km. Gas-Electric hybrid buses will further save more energy and emit even less.
