Generally speaking, there are three features in above-5m bus market in 2013. The first one is that Yutong, Higer, King Long and Golden Dragon occupy more than a half of the whole market shares. Then, Zhongtong returned to fall behind Golden Dragon after short surpass in 2012. Due to its upgrading product structure, Zhongtong increases 54.5% in its large bus sales volume. The last feature is that Foton AUV becomes the enterprise with the fastest growth by virtue of 3,000-LNG-bus order of Beijing Public Bus Group.
Bus over 5m: Foton Increases and Huanghai Decreases
Accumulative sales volume of bus over 5m in 2013 is 221,606 units, increasing 0.8% year on year. Yutong is ranked as the first by its sales of 56,068 units, which is followed by Higer, King Long and Golden Dragon. Sales volumes of the latter three are respectively 25,817, 17,520, and 12,301 units. Accumulative sales volume of these four major bus manufacturers is 111,706 units, increasing to 50.4% from 47.6% of last year in market share.
Besides these four major bus manufacturers, other mainstream bus manufacturers lost their balance in market performance. In 2013, sales volume of above-5m bus of Foton AUV is 5,008 units, increasing greatly 29.7%. However, Huanghai is of the largest decline, decrease of which is more than 30%. Two bus manufacturers following Huanghai are Ankai and Hengtong.
Large Bus: Zhongtong Increases the Most
Sales volume of large bus (10m<L) is 85,906 units, increasing 0.7% year on year. Zhongtong stands out among the whole industry by 54.5% growth rate. Huanghai and Ankai decrease with respective decrease rate of 42.9% and 35%. Performance of bus manufacturers in large bus market represents their condition of technological and operational conditions. The reason why Zhongtong harvests in large bus market is its revolution of quality.
In 2013, large bus sales volume of Foton AUV increases to 3,772 units from 2,590 units of 2012, increasing 45.6% in sales and 1.4% in market share. This increase of AUV is because of LNG order of 3,000 units. Beijing Public Bus Group purchased these LNG buses, most of which are large buses. Thus, market share of Foton AUV in large bus market is directly motivated. Asiastar increases to 1,710 units from 1,310 units of 2012, increasing 30.5%.
Medium Bus: Golden Dragon Performs Excellently and Foton Develops
Sales volume of medium bus (7m<L≤10m) is 79,621 units, decreasing 5.5% year on year. Golden Dragon draws people’s attention by its increase of 5.4%.
Medium bus sales volume of Foton AUV in 2013 is 1,236 units, increasing 3.5% against the decline trend in medium bus market. Based on data, Foton AUV sells 115 medium school buses, which becomes the major reason motivating medium bus market.
Light Bus: Changan Increases Greatly
Sales volume of light bus (5m<L≤7m) is 56,079 units, increasing 11.5% year on year. The fastest increase belongs to Changan light bus due to 43.2% increase and improved 1.5% market share. Higer increases its market share to 13.5% from 12.6% of 2012, solidifying its position in light bus market.
In a word, bus market in 2013 shows the trend of “The stronger keeps strong”, which accords with Matthew Effect of economics.
