www.chinabuses.org: As a pioneer in R&D of new energy buses, Zhongtong Bus started developing green buses in 2004. Currently, the company has developed its own technologies and has made quite eye-catching achievements in this field. Li Shupeng, president of Zhongtong Bus points out that the company is now eyeing on the overseas market and aiming at making new breakthroughs in new energy buses.

Thanks to its constant efforts, Zhongtong Bus revealed its Lanxin Platform in July, 2013, the first gas-powered bus R&D platform in China, positioning itself as the leader in this field. In the same month, the 10,000th gas-powered bus was delivered to its customer, accounting for over 10% of the total gas-powered bus fleet in China.

In recent years, on the back of the favorable policies towards new energy vehicles, gas-powered buses have maintained a fast growing momentum. In 2011, the sales volume of gas-powered buses reached 18,800 units, accounting for 7.8% of the total bus sales volume in that year. In 2012, the figure jumped to 33,500 units, up by 78% year on year. Also, the number accounted for 13.2% of the year's total bus sales volume. So far among the 50 bus-makers in China, 30-plus enterprises have entered the field. With cut-throat competition, Zhongtong gas-powered buses still manages to take the lead by holding over 12% market share.

Li Shupeng, president of Zhongtong Bus, also reveals that it rolled out China's first plug-in bus on Apr. 28, 2013. The company's project in manufacturing such green buses have also won great supports from the government.

Last year, China sold less than 10,000 new energy buses. Among them, Zhongtong delivered over 1,000 units, accounting for more than 10%. Now, its new energy buses are mainly operated in north China and Yangtze River Delta.
