www.chinabuses.org: On May 22, Volvo Group made an announcement that the company was planning to study the feasibility of construction of recharging roads for urban city buses. In doing so, buses can realize energy refill while working on the roads. In cooperation with Swedish Transport Management Bureau, the company will build a recharging road section about 300 to 500 meters long in Gorberg, Sweden.
As early as 2008, Volvo Group rolled out its hybrid city buses powered by both traditional diesel engines and electric motors to the public. To date, three Volvo plug-in hybrid city buses have been in smooth operation in Gorberg and got recharged at the terminal of the bus route No. 60. The research and development of recharging roads aim at further increase the driving distance of the green vehicles, providing wireless technologies for continuous recharging. Also known as induction recharging, the new technology helps vehicles to realize energy refill by wireless equipment set on the road, reducing the recharging time to nil.
