www.chinabuses.org: Ministry of Transport (MOT) recently released another encouraging news that it is planning to further promote the marketization of new energy vehicles in urban public transport, taxis, and urban logistic services. It also aims to increase the number of eco-friendly vehicles in service to 300,000 units in 2020.

On Sept. 16, 2014, the MOT distributed “Suggestions on Further Promoting New Energy Vehicles”. According to it, the number of new energy vehicles is expected to reach 300,000 units, reaching the goal for the first stage development for new energy vehicles. In addition, the eco-friendly vehicles are expected to contribute 20% to the nationwide campaign on energy saving and emission reduction in urban transport sector.

It is also found in the “suggestions” the MOT gives green light to new energy vehicles in three sectors, including urban public buses taxis and urban logistic vehicles. To further win support from local governments, eco-friendly vehicles are not listed for any restricted operation or purchases. New energy taxis can be operated with more favorable conditions and the number of green logistic vehicles are no longer under control.

Two months ago, the state council released its suggestions on speeding up the popularization of new energy vehicles. Spurred by this, the suggestions presented by MOT will render further policy supports to popularizing new energy vehicles. According to MOT’s plan, the new energy powered urban bus fleet is expected to reach 200,000 units, eco-friendly taxis 50,000 units, and green logistic vehicles 50,000 units.
