www.chinabuses.org: Recently, a Higer plug-in hybrid bus was put into trial operation on the bus route No.5 in Shiyan, Hubei Province, attracting wide public attention. According to the bus operator, the route has to travel along a number of slopes across the city and stops at quite a few stations. Moreover, it passes by the bustling central business area and the city railway station.
Measuring 12 meters in length, the green vehicle is clothed with eye-catching “Higer plug-in hybrid bus” logo. Equipped with 33 seats, the bus has delivered impressive performance for the past one-month trial operation.
According to Higer, the plug-in hybrid vehicle controls its energy consumption by well integrating the idle stop-start system and electric driveline. When stopping by the bus stops or traffic lights, the bus will have its engine work in the stand-up mode and stores the extra energy away, thus cutting the fuel consumption during the slowing down process and achieving high energy efficiency. When the vehicle restarts, it will completely powered by electricity. When its speed reaches 30 km/h, the bus’s engine will be started again, providing extra power for the vehicle. “The bus is much more stable while in start-up or braking process. It feels more comfortable compared with other traditional buses working on the same route,” some passengers say.
An experienced bus driver surnamed Wang from Shiyan Public Transport Group, who has been driving the plug-in hybrid vehicle, says that the bus is certainly astounding when it comes to the maneuverability. As the bus is equipped with automatic gear shifting system, bus drivers are freed from more manual work, especially in times of traffic jams.
To adapt to the complex road conditions in Shiyan, the vehicle made by Higer has a “Climbing Up” shift button. After pressing it, the drive can easily manipulate the bus to climb slopes. Workers from the bus operator also speak highly of Higer vehicles for their outstanding stability and reliability compared with other domestic new energy bus brands.
To further promote the application of new energy vehicles, Chinese governments at various levels have implemented a series of favorable policies. Currently, the plug-in hybrid bus made by Higer has basically reached zero-emission standard. Thanks to this, it will make significant contributions to cut energy consumption and boost urban images.
