www.chinabuses.org: On March 4, a grand ceremony was held to mark the delivery of Skywell D11 electric light buses manufactured by Nanjing Golden Dragon to their customer in Hong Kong. This ushers in a new era for the bus maker, is opening a new chapter for its overseas expansion. According to it, the company will deliver a total number of 45 units buses to its customer Hong Kong Xianglong Automobile Company.
In late 2010, Hong Kong only had less than 100 electric vehicles. However, as of the end of January in 2016, the number of electric vehicles soared to 4,464 in this metropolis. So far, a total number of 52 electric vehicle models from seven countries have already gained their entry certificate into Hong Kong, including 36 passenger vehicle models and 16 commercial vehicles for public transportation. "Hong Kong government has been working strenuously to promote the presence of environmentally friendly vehicles and improve air quality in the city. The ultimate goal is to make all buses running on the roads in Hong Kong all reach zero-emission standards. For this reason, what we are looking for is a partner which is good at manufacturing electric commercial vehicles," says Jiang Rixiong, Executive Director of Xianglong.
Despite people's general impression about Hong Kong's small size, buses are usually required to drive long distances for 20 hours. Plus, the hot and humid weather add extra power consumption for the vehicles. Having made a number of visits to Nanjing Golden Dragon, Jiang Rixiong decided to try Skywell D11 electric light bus. "A trial operation really blown us away when Skywell D11 ran 250 km continuously," says Mr. Jiang. He can hardly hide his excitement.
To meet to customer's special needs in Hong Kong, Skywell D11 electric light bus has made a number of adjustments, including low-floor access, sliding door, driving-on-the right-side design, double rear doors, and extra powerful air-conditioners. Also worth mentioning is a six-square-meter photovoltaic board, which not only help the vehicle increase its continuous driving mileage, but also cut power consumption for air-conditioning for the bus. Currently, Skywell D11 electric light bus has meet international, European and Japanese recharging standards.
2015 is undoubtedly a year of "new energy" in China's auto market. Along the leaps and bounds made by electric commercial vehicles, Nanjing Golden Dragon ranked the second place with a total sales volume of 8,796 units electric buses. High performance and core technologies have become synonyms with Nanjing Golden Dragon. "Entering Hong Kong will greatly boost our brand image on the global stage, bringing us closer to the international competition," says Qin Xujun, Brand Director of Nanjing Golden Dragon.
While Skywell D11 electric light bus is now set to enter Hong Kong after surviving a cut-throat competition, 2,000 units Nanjing Golden Dragon electric buses measuring 12-meter in length will also soon make their way to Southeast Asia.
