In 1992, Zhongtong’s production volume of buses reached 1,344 units, ranking the second place after Yangzhou Bus Factory in China’s bus manufacturing industry. On January 13, 2000, the bus maker went public at Shenzhen Stock Exchange.


In 2011, Zhongtong initiated a restructuring program for its product line, aiming at transforming its growth mode and improve its sustainability. In 2012, Zhongtong’s medium- and large-buses measuring 6 meter in length and above edged their way to the top tier market in China. In 2015, the company’s sales volume of new energy buses exceeded 10,000 units and the company continued to increase its market share in China’s bus manufacturing industry. For the whole year of 2015, the company’s business revenue surpassed eight billion RMB.

In the early half of 2016, Zhongtong realized a growth rate of 90% in its business revenue and it maintained the second place in China’s bus industry in terms of medium- and large-buses.


From a production volume of just 18 buses in 1971 to a production volume of 17,000 units in 2015, To date, after 45 years’ robust growth, the bus maker has grown into one of the leading enterprises in China’s bus manufacturing industry. No matter in its production scale, corporate management, and profitability, Zhongtong has made substantial progress. Especially in the field of research and development of energy-saving buses and new energy buses, the company has been constantly gaining popularity among customers across the world.
Having been involved in the labor-intensive and technology-intensive bus manufacturing industry, Zhongtong knows well the attitude plays a significant role in its business development. For all these years, the bus manufacturer has always been focusing on improving its core competitiveness.


In 1974, Zhongtong joined hands with China’s Ministry of Transport & Transportation for the design and development of SD651, JT661, JT680 and SD662 buses. In the process, it has gradually formed its own R&D team. In June, 2001, Zhongtong, together with Netherlands-based Bova, rolled out Bova luxury coaches, marking the official entry of the company into the high-end bus market.

New Energy Coaches to be Delivered

In September, 2007, Zhongtong won China’s Famous Brand title. In August, 2008, it was the only bus maker which signed a service contract with Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee for providing energy-saving and new energy buses for the high-profile event. In 2010, Zhongtong was recognized as China’s Well-Renowned Brand. Since 2011, the bus maker has been making new breakthroughs, thus moving from the fifth place to the second place in the industry.
          

Taking the production of buses as its core business, Zhongtong has been actively involved in researching and developing new energy buses, school buses, recreational vehicles, logistic vehicles and high-end business vehicles. So far, the company has successfully optimized its product line, boasting a wide spectrum of bus products and sizable market shares in such fields of school buses, CNG buses and new energy buses. All these have laid a solid foundation for its continued and sound growth in the thirteenth Five-year Plan Period.


In 2015, Zhongtong sold 10,498 units new energy buses, holding a market share of 11% in China’s new energy bus market. In the same year, its production volume of various types of buses reached 17,599 units. Thus, the sales of the company’s new energy buses accounted for 60% of the company’s total sales volume. Such achievements are unheard of in China’s bus industry.


Since 2004, Zhongtong has put the development of new energy buses on its top agenda. In order to gain a solid foothold in the emerging field, it has been constantly improving its production facilities, diversifying its product line and introducing new talents. Moreover, it has set up three core laboratories for the research and development electric control systems, power & battery systems, and driveline systems.

At the end of 2014, Zhongtong’s new energy bus production base was officially put into operation, marking a new milestone in the company’s development history. Now with sound R&D mechanisms and formidable R&D strengths, Zhongtong has mastered a number of key technologies, including motor driving system, batteries, vehicle control and distance monitoring. Moreover, it has developed a wide spectrum of hybrid buses and electric buses, measuring from 6.6 meters to 18 meters in length.
