On July, 25, 2018, the first batch of fuel cell buses in the world were put into commercial operation in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province. Manufactured by Foton AUV, these vehicles measuring 10.5 meters in length have been working smoothly for over three months, fully demonstrating their high reliability and superb energy efficiency.

According to the bus operator in Zhangjiakou, all Foton AUV fuel cell buses have been put on bus route No. 23 and No. 33 with the highest passenger flow in the city. Each day, these vehicles work over 14 hours and drive 250 kilometers. So far, they together have driven over 20,000 kilometers and provided transportation services for over three million passengers. Statistics show that each vehicle only consumes 6.7 kg hydrogen for every 100 km.

“We are extremely pleased with these fuel cell buses,” said Huo Junqing, Director of Technological Department of Zhangjiakou Public Transport Co., Ltd. After a refill of hydrogen for 10 to 15 minutes, Foton AUV fuel cell bus is able to drive over 400 kilometers continuously, fully meeting the various requirements for urban public transportation.

To prepare for 2022 Winter Olympic Games, Zhangjiakou has been strengthening its efforts in promoting greener development and utilization of renewable resources. Currently, it is building its own Hydrogen Production Base and Hydrogen Refilling Stations to ensure the smooth operation of more fuel cell vehicles in the city.(www.chinabuses.org)
