On January 18, BYD’s 50,000th unit electric bus officially went off the productioin line at Hangzhou BYD Bus Production Center. According to the bus maker, the 12-meter bus K9UB with loading capacity of 80 passengers, will be soon be delivered to its customer Tubasa in Spain.
In November, 2018, BYD won orders from several cities in Spain, becoming China’s first electric bus brand to enter the country.
BYD’s first electric bus K9 went off the production line in Changsha in 2010. Six years later, the company’s production volume of electric buses reached 10,000 units. From 2016 to 2019, its total production volume of electric bus jumped from 10,000 units to 50,000 units.
So far, BYD electric buses can be easily found in a number of cities across China. In 2013, 35 units BYD electric buses started serving passengers at Amsterdam Schiphol International Airport. In just a few years, BYD has rapidly expanded its presence in the global market, with a number of customers, such as London Transport Bureau, LA Public Transport, Sydney International Airport, Stanford University, Facebook, etc.
Currently, BYD boasts a wide spectrum of electric buses with their length ranging from six to 18 meters. In addition, it is internationally competitive in vehicle batteries, electric motors, electric controls. It has also made huge contributions to the commercialization of wheel hub drive technology, whole aluminum alloy vehicle body technology, double directional charging & discharging technology, power battery heat management system, etc. Recently at China National Science & Technology Awarding Conference, BYD’s Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery Manufacturing and Key Technologies won National Science & Technology Major Contribution Award, fully demonstrating its formidable strength in the new energy vehicle industry.
