Recently, the first batch of electric city buses made by BYD arrived in French Polynesia for operation. Under the witness of the country’s president Edouard Fritch, the eight units BYD electric city buses started serving passengers between Outumaoro and College de Arue in Papeete, the capital city of the country.
To improve the public transport networks in the country, the government of French Polynesia signed an agreement with RTCT, a local bus operator on October, 17, 2018. According to the agreement , a total investment of 4.6 billion French Pacific Franc (XPF) (about 300 million RMB) will be made to comprehensively upgrade the public transport networks in the country.
According to BYD, all the eight units electric buses are BYD K8 equipped with lithium iron phosphate batteries with a power storage of 313 kWh. The bus is able to drive 250 km continuously.
One of the biggest highlights of K8 electric bus is that it has special boarding facilities for those physically challenged passengers. It also has a special area for wheelchairs. Through their smart phones, passengers can also track the positions of buses and thus enjoy faster transportation services.

It is also revealed another batch of 12 units BYD K9 electric buses will arrive in the country in December this year, providing more travel convenience for local citizens and travelers.
