In order to strengthen its international presence and improve its overall competitiveness, BYD first put its eye on the European market back in 1998. Also in that year, it established its European Office in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
In the face of a host of challenges, it has made big inroads in the European bus market. Thanks to its thorough knowledge of local markets and advanced technologies. So far, BYD electric buses have been put into service in a number of cities across Europe, including Amsterdam, Madrid, Barcelona, Budapest, Milan, etc. by working closely with local governments and bus operators, it has helped many cities build highly efficient and highly environmentally friendly electric bus operation networks.
On December 6, BYD signed an official cooperation agreement with Keolis Netherlands, one of the leading provider of public transportation services in Europe. According to their agreement, BYD is to provide 259 units electric buses to Netherlands in the near future, the largest ever electric bus order in Europe.
So far, BYD has surpassed all the six major bus makers in Europe, including Evobus, Neoplan, Irisbus, Volvo, VDL and Scania. With a market share of 20%, it ranks the first place in the European market.
“So far, BYD electric buses have already made their way to almost 50 cities across Europe, gaining a fast growing popularity among bus operators and passengers,” revealed Wang Chuanfu, president of BYD.
On May 18 this year, BYD electric buses officially entered Japanese market, providing transportation services for tourists at some scenic spots.
In Latin America, BYD has received major electric bus orders from Argentina, Ecuador, and other countries. On November 14, it won an order of 379 units electric buses from Columbia.
So far, BYD has delivered a total number of over 50,000 units electric buses to its overseas customers across the globe, ranking the first place among all electric bus makers.
