Recently, 140 units hydrogen fuel cell city buses were officially handed over to Zhangjiakou Public Transport Group, ready for serving the much-anticipated 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games. These buses are manufactured by Yutong, Zhongtong, Foton AUV and Geely Sichuan Commercial Vehicle, all measuring 11.5-meter to 12-meter in length.
According to Zhangjiakou Public Transport Group, a total number of 655 units hydrogen fuel cell city buses will be put into service during the high-profile event.
In 2018, 74 units hydrogen fuel cell city buses officially started operation in Zhangjiakou, ushering in a brand new era of public transport for the city. In 2019, 100 units hydrogen fuel cell city buses were put into operation. In recognition of its contribution to the promotion of hydrogen fuel cell buses, the city was awarded as the Pilot City for Commercial Operation of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Buses by GEF, UNDP and China’s Ministry of Science and Technology. Currently, 10 bus routes in the city are entirely powered by hydrogen.
As a co-host city of 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games, Zhangjiakou has been actively promoting the development of its hydrogen energy industry and other renewable energy industry. Currently, a total number of 51 hydrogen energy related projects with a total investment of 18.2 billion RMB are either under construction or in full operation.
