2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games officially kicked off on February, 4th. To host a green and energy-saving Winter Olympic Games, the organizing committee, together with Beijing Municipal Government, have made relentless efforts.
According to the statistics released by the organizing committee, over 30 hydrogen refill stations have been built for the Winter Olympic Games. In addition, over 1000 units hydrogen powered vehicles have been put into operation, including over 800 units hydrogen fuel cell buses manufactured by Foton AUV, Yutong, Zhongtong, Geely, etc. The Winter Olympic Games has truly become a competition venue for all major players in the hydrogen fuel cell bus market. More specifically, 515 units Foton AUV hydrogen fuel cell buses have been put into operation, accounting for 63% of the entire bus fleet; Yutong has 185 units in operation, accounting for 23% of the entire bus fleet; Geely has 80 units in operation, accounting for 10% of the entire bus fleet; Zhongtong has 40 units in operation, accounting for 5% of the entire bus fleet.
Compared with fossil fuel powered bus, the hydrogen fuel cell bus is able to avoid emitting about 57 kg carbon dioxide into the atmosphere for every 100 km. In addition, it is highly reliable and can drive long distances continuously. It can get a hydrogen refill in just a few minutes.
Back in 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, only 3 units hydrogen fuel cell buses were put into operation. The figure jumped to 196 units in 2010 World Expo held in Shanghai. In just a decade, the hydrogen fuel cell bus industry has been witnessing an explosive growth, fully demonstrating China’s determination to fight against global warming.
According to the statistics released by CAAM (China Association of Automobile Manufacturers), China produced 1,742 units hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in 2021, up by 48.2% year on year. In the same year, its sales volume of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles stood at 1,586 units, up by 34.7% year on year.
