On May 21, 2024, BYD released the pure electric double-decker bus BD11 equipped with a new generation of "blade battery" bus chassis in London, UK, marking a further step in the overseas expansion of BYD commercial vehicles.
Frank Thorpe, General Manager of BYD's commercial vehicle business in the UK, said, "The BYD BD11 pure electric double-decker bus adopts the latest BYD core technology to ensure safe and reliable electric travel, and is committed to providing clean and environmentally friendly public transportation services to consumers. BYD will continue to lead the transformation of global public transportation towards green and sustainable development with innovative technologies and products."
The BYD BD11 will be put into operation in the second half of this year, with a maximum passenger capacity of 90 people, a battery capacity of up to 532 kWh, and support for dual-gun charging. The first batch of models is specially designed for London, and subsequent models will be launched to meet the needs of different regions in the UK. The new generation of blade battery double-decker bus chassis equipped on the BYD BD11 integrates the battery with the frame, which not only significantly reduces the weight of the vehicle, increases range, but also improves the stability and handling of the vehicle. The vehicle design takes into account the comfort and safety of both the driver and passengers, and advanced active safety configurations such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) can be optionally installed.
The conference was held at the London Public Transport Museum, a place of historic significance. The museum collects the first double-decker electric bus equipped with a BYD K9E chassis.
Currently, more than 1,800 BYD electric buses are operating on UK roads, with a total mileage of over 127 million kilometers, equivalent to a cumulative reduction of 137,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. As of April this year, BYD's renewable energy footprint has spread across 88 countries and regions and more than 400 cities around the world. In the future, BYD will continue to lead the transformation of renewable energy vehicles and contribute to sustainable innovation and development globally.
