On July 23, 2024, local time, BYD South Africa Branch (hereinafter referred to as "BYD") achieved a groundbreaking cooperation agreement with Golden Arrow, a prominent bus operator in South Africa, securing an order for 120 electric buses. Together, they aim to propel the electrification of local public transportation. This agreement marks the inception of South Africa's first electric bus fleet, providing a strong impetus for sustainable development and green travel in the "Rainbow Nation."

Since 2021, BYD electric buses have undergone a series of comprehensive and rigorous real-world tests in South Africa with Golden Arrow. These tests encompassed challenges from simulated full-load conditions to conquering the steepest roads in Cape Town. During these trials, BYD electric buses demonstrated exceptional performance, outstanding range, and high safety standards, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent large-scale collaboration between the two parties. The 120 customized electric buses, specifically optimized for South Africa's climatic conditions and traffic demands, will be integrated into Golden Arrow's existing bus fleet.

The ordered electric buses are 12.5 meters long, designed with 65 seats, and equipped with BYD's self-developed lithium iron phosphate batteries and six-in-one controllers. This innovative technology effectively enhances the vehicle's energy efficiency and reliability, achieving a perfect balance between power and environmental protection. Once operational, these electric buses will significantly reduce carbon emissions, purify urban air, and provide South African citizens with a quiet and comfortable riding experience, leading the new trend in public transportation.

Steve Chang, General Manager of BYD South Africa, expressed his deep honor in introducing BYD's leading electric bus technology to this vibrant nation. He stated, "Our cooperation with Golden Arrow is a vivid demonstration of our shared commitment to a sustainable future vision and a powerful testament to the high recognition of clean energy solutions in the South African market."

Francois Meyer, CEO of Golden Arrow, expressed high hopes for the partnership: "As a pioneer in South Africa's public transportation sector, Golden Arrow is extremely proud to lead this transformation. Our partnership with BYD not only reflects our firm commitment to innovation and sustainable development but also sets a new benchmark for the future development of public transportation in South Africa."

The delivery of the first batch of electric buses is expected to commence in December this year, with the plan to complete all deliveries by the end of next year. As a leader in the global electric bus sector, BYD's commercial vehicles have spread across six continents, including international metropolises such as Amsterdam, London, Tokyo, and Sao Paulo. With a cumulative delivery of over 80,000 vehicles, BYD has made significant contributions to the green transformation of the global transportation industry.
