As a global leader in foundation brake systems, ZF has achieved a significant milestone with its Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) production surpassing 250 million units. This achievement not only solidifies ZF's leading position in the industry but also makes it the first company globally to reach this mark. ZF has always been committed to enhancing the overall performance of brake systems, providing drivers with safe and comfortable driving experiences.
The EPB, with its lightweight design, reduces the weight of the braking system, thereby improving fuel economy. It also marks a crucial step towards the electrification of mechanical systems, enabling more advanced functions when integrated with other vehicle systems. Furthermore, the EPB can achieve two-wheel anti-lock emergency braking, which can be activated with just a light touch of a button, significantly enhancing driver safety.
In addition to providing parking braking, the EPB can be fully integrated into the braking system, offering dynamic assistance and friction pad wear sensing functions while minimizing the performance degradation associated with traditional mechanical systems.
Danny Milot, Senior Vice President of Brake Engineering at ZF Group, said, "At the beginning of this century, when purely mechanical braking functions were gradually transitioning, ZF had already established itself as a global leader in foundation braking. The continued success of the EPB confirms this position, as the technology has been widely adopted in major vehicle models worldwide, ranging from small cars to large pickup trucks and SUVs."
As an industry leader in braking technology, ZF offers a range of parking brake solutions, including integrated parking brake systems and full EPB systems. Since 2007, ZF has been producing EPBs in China, with three production bases in Zhangjiagang, Wuhan, and Langfang. To date, nearly 100 million EPBs have been produced in China. Over the past five decades, ZF has sold more than 3 billion braking components. ZF has always been at the forefront of innovation, providing the most comprehensive product portfolio for software-defined vehicles, including fully electric control steering, braking, and damping systems.
Milot stated, "In the pursuit of advanced automotive safety, autonomous driving, and electrification, braking systems will continue to play a crucial role. ZF will remain at the forefront of the industry, relentlessly pursuing innovative breakthroughs and setting new benchmarks for the automotive industry."
