Recently, 234 high-end tourist coaches from Golden Dragon were loaded and shipped from Xiamen Dongdu Port District's Xiandai Terminal, heading for Jeddah Port, an important port along the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) route in Saudi Arabia. This shipment represents the largest single batch order to Saudi Arabia by a Chinese bus enterprise this year, serving as a vivid example of the rising new momentum in Xiamen and China's opening-up efforts, and fully demonstrating the competitiveness and brand strength of Chinese high-end coaches in the international market.

In the first quarter of this year, Xiamen Golden Dragon Bus Co., Ltd. (abbreviated as Golden Dragon) combined its ongoing efforts to deepen and expand the "Three Competitions" initiative with the "Strive Hard, Strive for Excellence" special campaign, resulting in a rapid acceleration in bus exports and a strong start to the year, highlighting remarkable achievements in deepening and solidifying high-quality cooperation along the BRI.
Deep Cultivation in Saudi Arabia: Good Reputation Leads to High Repurchase Rate
Once upon a time, the high-end coach market in Saudi Arabia was dominated by European and American brands. Today, Chinese buses have emerged as the standout performer in Saudi Arabia.
With the deep alignment of the BRI and Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, more and more Chinese buses have entered the Saudi market, making it one of the largest export markets for Chinese buses.
"Saudi Arabia has a huge demand for passenger transportation, making it a hotly contested market for Chinese automakers. Every Chinese bus brand you can see in China can also be seen on Saudi roads. Winning this order was no easy feat," said Huang Ji, Vice President of Golden Dragon International Trading Company. "These 234 high-end tourist coaches are the fruits of Golden Dragon's active integration into the BRI and its deep cultivation in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East market."
Since its first entry into Saudi Arabia in 2008, Golden Dragon has been operating there for 17 years, delivering over 5,000 buses covering school buses, city buses, and high-end passenger vehicles. Over the years, Golden Dragon has not only withstood the harsh environmental tests in Saudi Arabia but also passed the brand tests of Saudi consumers. "Among our Saudi market orders, 80% are repeat purchases from existing customers, and 20% are from new customers. Such a high repurchase rate fully demonstrates that Golden Dragon has won widespread market recognition and a good reputation among consumers," said Huang Ji.
Unlike other automakers that use a dealer model, Golden Dragon adopts a direct sales model in Saudi Arabia. All orders are secured by the company's sales representatives through their own efforts. For this order, Golden Dragon's sales representatives conducted over five months of visits and surveys in the Saudi market to fully understand customer needs. The combination of profound technical accumulation, top-notch product quality, and comprehensive after-sales services enabled Golden Dragon to successfully secure this large order.

High-End Customization: Confidently Meeting the Severe Challenges of the "Land of Deserts"
Known as the "Land of Deserts," Saudi Arabia's extreme heat, dust, and long-distance transportation pose severe challenges to vehicle performance.
In response to Saudi Arabia's arid, high-temperature, and dusty climate, Golden Dragon provides customized services to ensure that its vehicles meet leading standards in safety, comfort, and reliability, enhancing the travel experience for local residents and tourists.
Significant optimizations have been made in dustproofing, heat insulation, and air conditioning refrigeration. "In Saudi Arabia, summer temperatures can exceed 50°C, with ground temperatures reaching up to 80°C. Customers require that the vehicle's interior temperature drops to a comfortable range of 25°C to 30°C within half an hour of starting," said Huang Ji. Not only must the vehicle cool down quickly, but the air conditioning must also maintain high-speed operation for extended periods, with 8 hours of continuous operation being the norm. To achieve this, the company's technicians collected data on-site, collaborated with air conditioning manufacturers to enlarge and optimize the air conditioning evaporator, condenser, and compressor, and strengthened the vehicle's sound insulation and heat insulation, enabling it to confidently handle the local climate and complex road conditions.
It is worth noting that this order was completed from order acceptance, configuration confirmation to production in just 50 days, including the Chinese New Year holiday during the Year of the Snake. "Meeting the demands of most overseas orders, which require both customization and short-term delivery, would not have been possible without the promotion of our company's personalized order digital factory project," said Huang Ji. In recent years, Golden Dragon has seized the opportunities of digital development, accelerated its digital transformation and upgrading, shifted from "human-driven intelligence" to "data-driven intelligence," and met customers' more diversified needs in a shorter time.
Strong Start: Creating a New Model for Capacity Cooperation
Not just in Saudi Arabia, Golden Dragon's overseas market has been booming this year, with busy delivery scenes.
155 Golden Dragon buses were shipped to Kuwait to assist in the renewal of local public transportation; 100 Golden Dragon Coaster school buses were "grouped" and shipped to Oman, marking another milestone in Golden Dragon's overseas market expansion... Golden Dragon is actively promoting the green transformation of local public transportation and continuously writing new chapters for Chinese manufacturing on the world stage. "We are striving for a strong start in the first quarter. From the data, our exports increased by 129% year-on-year in the first three months, laying a solid foundation for achieving a 'full-year success,'" Huang Ji introduced.
Golden Dragon's "going global" is no longer just about product exports but has evolved from product exports to technology exports, service exports, and ultimately capacity cooperation. "In the past, our main personnel in overseas markets were salespeople and after-sales service staff. Now, design engineers, process personnel, quality control personnel, and senior industrial workers are also frequently dispatched to overseas markets to assist in local project production," said Huang Ji.
As a pioneer among Chinese bus enterprises in overseas markets, Golden Dragon has established 13 KD (Knocked Down) factories in overseas markets in about five years, creating a new model for capacity cooperation between China and BRI partner countries. Among them, the Golden Dragon Egypt KD Factory, with the largest production capacity, has produced over 6,000 light buses; the Thailand factory, which has the strictest delivery cycle requirements, assembled and produced around 3,000 new energy buses during the pandemic; and the most challenging to build is the Golden Dragon Ethiopia KD Factory, which covers 7 hectares and is the first large-scale new energy KD project for Chinese bus enterprises in Africa.
The advancement of Golden Dragon's overseas KD factories has, on the one hand, enhanced the competitiveness of Chinese bus products and brands and promoted the landing of "Chinese solutions" and "Chinese standards" for the three-electric system (battery, motor, and electric control) overseas. On the other hand, it has indirectly created a large number of local jobs, and the development of upstream and downstream industrial chains extended from the factories has created a scenario where "one factory drives one city, and one bus drives one chain."
In a complex and ever-changing market environment, Golden Dragon, with its profound accumulation in products, technology, strategy, and services, has exported its products to more than 120 countries and regions worldwide, with cumulative overseas sales exceeding 80,000 units, becoming an important force in "going global" and "going deeper" for Chinese manufacturing. Next, Golden Dragon will seize the development opportunities in the BRICS markets and the BRI, write a new chapter in overseas markets with a more open attitude and steadier steps, and contribute "Golden Dragon strength" to the green and intelligent development of global public transportation.
